The Theme Tree of 2010

Hey Bloggerettes,

In My Humble Opinion Ramblings:

The theme of my Christmas tree this year was "May the bluebird of happiness fly up your nose". Note the peacocks, bluebirds, false nose and glasses, bi-planes, blue lights. There are so many blue lights that you almost have a seizure when you walk in the room and see the tree!

We had a full house for Christmas dinner - even a young woman from Costa Rica joined us. She is very brave - I, myself, would not go to a foreign country and sit down to a huge meal of unknown foods! What if they didn't have Heinz ketchup and the food wasn't white???????

Hey Colleen, guess what's coming??????

Hey Bloggerettes,

I am expecting the Tim Holtz "Vagabond" machines on Wednesday. I pre-ordered these in August and I already tried to re-order from my wholesaler but I can't get any more right now. If you followed the "12 Tags Of Christmas" you will be glad to know that I have been amassing the product to make them. Odd things like mica, blossom branches, white UTEE, sticky back canvas, black core'dinations paper, etc.

If I find more unusual goodies in the shipment I will let you know.

It's been a frenzy..........

Hey Bloggerettes,

It's been a frenzy at the store lately. It's hard to keep ahead of the buyers. The Tim Holtz "12 Tags of Christmas" has created another buying spree of his product. Are you following his TAGS? Yes, I will be doing classes on them starting in mid-January. Better sign up quick!

I received a small order from Maya Road - there are some very neat products (ribbon, flowers, envelopes, wooden bingo markers, tin boxes, canvas albums, 8x8 chip albums, stick pins, kraft tickets and doilies) . Their ribbon is fabulous.

I'm expecting a few orders this week - I'll keep you posted.

Timmy, tim, tim......

Hey Bloggerettes,

ARRIVALS:

Tim Holtz Stamp sets

Graphic 45 - "Steampunk Debutante" collection (pretty darn cool)

Bo Bunny - Halloween collection "Whoo-ligans"

Scotch (not the libation) - Advanced Tape Glider (the new pink one)

That's only box 2 of 3 that arrived today. Don't ya love UPS!

It's sooooo good to get back to the Shabby Chic layout classes. "Miss Lynn" is so inspirational.

In My Humble Opinion:
The count-down is on - I can hardly wait to go to Vegas with my buds! The annual Teresa Collins event is going to be "uber-fab" - the sponsorship has grown 100 fold and the new venue is quite an upgrade. I found out last night that some customers will also be there. YEAH! We won't be able to fit the "schwag" in our luggage this year! Also, I'll be able to send updates through my new birthday iPhone (thanks Mom & Daddy). I love, love, love it. I won't have to haul my laptop anymore. Apparently I bring everything but the kitchen sink - tell me - are 8 pairs of black sandals too many for 7 days?????? (those are just the black ones - there are other colors involved in the wardrobe!) Purses are another story - and the jewelry!!!

TGIF - and my birthday!

Hey Bloggerettes,

It's great to be another year older - the alternative isn't that great!

The store is now operating on regular hours of business:

Mon-Fri 10-9pm
Sat 10-5pm
Sun 12-5pm

Monday,Sept 6 LABOR DAY HOURS: 12-5
(Shabby Chic II Classes start at 6PM on Monday)

Lots of classes are being scheduled. Check the "Stuff We Teach" on the website.

The Basic Grey Calendars are here.
7 Gypsies Shadowbox Tray (12x16) arrived today. Another cool item is their Library Drawer. Susan has already claimed them to do an Advent Calendar Class - stay tuned.
All the Stickles colors are back in stock.

In My Humble Opinion:
Growing old gracefully has its' challenges - I was waiting on a young couple the other day and I'm sure they will have nightmares about me - We were all at the Art Bar and I was showing them something when a rather large heat wave washed over me - beaded sweat on upper lip and brow, bright crimson face, left a sweaty palm print on the Art Bar surface (I had to get a paper towel to mop it up - YUCK!), almost slipped out of my sandals with the sweaty feet. Try to handle all of this and not miss a beat!!! It's quite a feat - I think I'll make up imaginary diseases to explain it like "Shesweatsalotosis" or "Aquabodicockis".

Mid-day Report

Hey Bloggerettes,

I want to touch base with you and fill you in on what's en route/pre-ordered.

Basic Grey Annual Calendar (en route)
7 Gypsies Letterblock Trays (en route)

Pink Paislee (pre-ordered)
Tim Holtz stamps (pre-ordered)
Tim Holtz Sizzix and Ideaology (pre-ordered)
Christmas and Halloween (pre-ordered)

If you would like anything put on hold for you when it arrives, please call the store.

We had a strange day in the store on Tuesday. It was "Manday". More men were in the store than women at one point. One guy wanted to know if we had coin rollers, another guy was looking for spare parts, another guy was picking up his wifes' order (she called from England and did a "store walk-about shop" with Susan) - always a fun day at the "Yard".

In My Humble Opinion:

Okay, I got something terrible in the mail today - the Victoria Secret catalogue. I got the one for tall, skinny, young women with 30" inseam - crap, I'm a 28" inseam!!!!

Another terrible thing - I accidently cleaned Milo's (my dog, not my child) ears with Shiseido Eye-Make-Up Remover instead of his Opti-ear cleanser. Damn those clear bottles! Am I a bad mother or what?????

Hugs to Diane.

Crazy day!

Hey Bloggerettes,

I should be fast asleep after the crazy day I had at the store today. I was the lone employee as well as the designer, prepper and teacher for 300 cards made by 10 women today. Thanks to my pal Maureen who got me through it all today. Thanks to Amy and Diane who helped me immensely Friday night. (I was home by 10:30 p.m. instead of 2:00 a.m. as I thought I would be.) Every year I say that I'll NEVER do it again and somehow the following July or August I have forgotten how painful it is and do it again - kinda like childbirth!

Diane, I hope you are doing okay!

I met all of Valery's family on Friday night. Love "the boy" - he's a character. He should work at the store I think. We could be a tag-team.

Gotta go to bed now - very tired! Looking forward to my day off tomorrow.

It's a Good Day!

Hey Bloggerettes,

Thought I'd better check in with the peeps. No new product in yet so I thought I would just amuse you with some of my "Humble Opinions":

Our lovely UPS guy dumped off some boxes last week and then proceeded to bang on the back door. The rain was pouring down when I opened the door. I bent over and wrestled with the heavy box of paper and tried to get it inside. Low and behold, I slipped with my wet shoes on the concrete floor and crashed to the floor. OMG, there were witnesses - I jumped up and pretend nothing happened. Sadly I had hurt myself when I crashed into the bookshelf but saved the box from harm - DUH!!! All women can identify with this injury - stabbing your fingernail back into your cuticle! I hurt my shoulder, cut my arm, wrenched my neck, jammed my finger, twisted my ankle and bruised my hip BUT NO TEARS WERE SHED.

Prior to the "big fall" I was bothered by tingling in my left hand all the way up my arm. My self-diagnosis thought stroke, MS, diabetes and heart attack. I did the right thing and sought a professional opinion. Turns out I have carpal tunnel in my left wrist - funny thing is, I'm right-handed. Guess what caused it? Too many bracelets!!!!! How can that be??? They are part of my persona!!!! Now I have a lovely big, strappy wrist brace that doesn't look good with bracelets. I am ashamed, so I only wear it at night. I'm down to 2 bracelets and a watch now during the daytime. You won't recognize me.

Seize the day.........

Hey Bloggerettes,

We had quite a few out-of-towners visit the store this past week. It's funny, when you talk to people, you find out what a small world it really is. One lady was from Longlac, Ontario. It's a small northern Ontario town just a few miles down the road from where my parents lived at one time. I love that kind of thing.

We had a few small shipments come in.

  • Cornish Heritage Farms stamps (they are closing their business so there won't be any more available - I thought it prudent to get some of the Thomas Kincaid scenery stamps for making Christmas cards with the Glitter Ritz)

  • Cricut matts

  • corrugated paper (2 colors)

  • Cuttlebug embossing folders (Retro Kitchen and Animal Prints)

  • Graphic 45 "Hallowe'en in Wonderland" (much sought after) paper called "Wonderland Classifieds"

  • Basic Grey 6x6 paper pads from the collection called "Basics" in manilla and kraft colors

A wee, tiny baby visited the store on Friday evening. Lynn's newest granddaughter, Ella, started scrapbooking at 8 days old. She is very sweet and cuddly. Lynn and Sharla were both beaming with pride. Lynn would like to continue with the 6x12 "Shabby Chic" classes the first full week of September. She won't do classes the week of Sept 20 and 27. The plan is to do 2 layouts/night on the following 2 weeks to catch up.

7 Gypsies had an invitational webinar for retailers not attending CHA this summer. It was very cool to be a part of this webinar. Some of the order that I placed that night is being shipped already. "Paddington" is one of the new paper collections-click on the photo to have a better look at it.

Linda Cain, a friend that I made at Ranger U, has just been named to Tim Holtz's design team. She made a comment on my last post after I sent her a congratulations on her blog. Check out her website through Tim's blog. Very talented lady!

Thanks to Mr. & Mrs. McCall for the door repairs on Saturday morning.

In My Humble Opinion:
I talked to my Mommie today. She is doing much better and sounded good. Oh ya, if anybody needs an old air conditioner I had a few calls at the store wondering if we paid cash for them - the scrap yard - people think we collect old metal scrap!!!! We get at least one call a day.

Thunder rolls.....................

Hey Bloggerettes,

Yet another thunder storm is predicted tonight. The torrential rain storm earlier in the week was very damaging. When I was driving home after work there must have been 15 trees along Canyon Meadows Drive toppled over (I think they were Walmart trees)!!

An order from Creative Imaginations came in today. A new product called 'Radiant Rain" - a glimmer spray in fabulous, vibrant colors. Banana Leaf paper, in several unique colors, is on the shelf. Some summer die-cut papers also came in.

The class calendar for August is posted.

Everyone should do their Civic Duty and visit The Scrap Yard this weekend (Friday and Saturday) to take advantage of the 25% OFF SALE.

When you are out shopping for your new fall wardrobe remember the Fall 2010 colors that are shown above. These colors will also be prominent in the scrapbooking world for fall so you can be "matchy-matchy.

CHA (Craft & Hobby Association) Summer 2010

Hey Bloggerettes,

This week marks the new fall/winter scrapbook product launch at CHA in Chicago. I have been searching the web for the newest and greatest products. There are some interesting things like:

  • Provo Craft's newest machine called the "Cricut Imagine" (it prints and cuts)
  • Tim Holtz's "Vagabond" that cuts and embosses his Sizzix products, new rubber stamps, new baubles, trimmings, facets, new Ideaology products, new Shadow Boxes etc......
  • Webster's Pages new Christmas collections
  • Graphic 45 goes Steampunk and ephemera
  • 7 Gypsies newest Printer Trays and ephemera

Is there anything out there that you have seen and must have? The "Wishlist" binder already has a few pages in it!

In My Humble Opinion

For those who are interested, my mom has started to venture out of the house a wee bit. I am so happy that she is making the effort to return to her normal life. My brother is out of the hospital and recovering at home now. He thought that maybe I could help with removing his stitches but I didn't think so. I fashion myself the "Un-nurse".

I talked to Lynn today - no baby as of this afternoon.

Hail-a-lu-ya!

Hey Bloggerettes,

Are you tired of the torrential downpours?
(tor·ren·tial/tôˈrenCHÉ™l/Adjective
1. (of rain) Falling rapidly and in copious quantities.
2. (of water) Flowing rapidly and with force)
Are you glad you're not a cowboy?

Things have been busy at "the Yard". The GARDEN BOOK class was last night - stress the NIGHT - the class wrapped up at about 10:45 p.m. - WHY, WHY, WHY do I make such elaborate projects? The girls loved the many techniques and multitude of exclusive product (from my personal stash).

Some orders have arrived in the past few days.

  • Graphic 45 "Wonderland" - it is amazing I must say

  • "Wreck This Journal" book (4 copies only)

  • Making Memories "Panorama" travel collection

  • Little Yellow Bicycle "Boardwalk" - just a small sampling

  • Melissa Frances newest release called "Kitschy Kitchen" - very retro - some other vintage embellishments came with this order too.

I hope you have been following Tim Holtz blog. He is posting pictures of his newest product that is scheduled to be released at the Summer CHA trade show in Chicago at the end of the month. I love the newest paper stack and matching sticker set.

In My Humble Opinion:

I have been up at the hospital quite a lot lately. My brother had another surgery and is struggling to get through it. The weirdest thing is that he is in exactly the same hospital room as he was before so it brings back a lot of memories.

My Mind's Eye "So Sophie" and some "Meadowlark Dawn". I love the quality of this paper. Both collections are double sided and a bit vintage.

7 Gypsies Letterblock Trays (black), Printer Trays (white), Avignon clear stamps and 4" elastics (like to ones used in the signature binding 3D House album)

Being sick sucks!

Hey Bloggerettes,

I have been under the weather for the past few days. Thanks to my staff for "stepping-up-to-the-plate" for me.

An order from "Riff Raff" arrived this week. There are 44 designs to chose from.

The CINCH binding tool arrived today.

The "Ranger" order is due in on Friday. I am going to find out about the Flower Sizzix die that no one can seem to get. Tim will know!

For those of you who ordered stamps from "Stampers Anonymous" - they called yesterday and said it was shipping. Exciting eh!!! They ship by US mail so it will probably be about 10-14 days.

My gals who did the Tim Holtz Jewelry Class yesterday went home feeling like princesses. Good on ya!

Break out the sandals, paint the toenails, pluck the chin hairs!

Hey Bloggerettes,

I am thoroughly enjoying the nicer weather, aren't you? Can we dare plant our flowers yet?

FYI: I posted the class schedule on June 1 and then made some changes yesterday. It may affect you, you never know.

I want to welcome Susan Tutt to The Scrap Yard staff. Susan is a talented 7 Gypsies designer and instructor with much to offer. Please visit her blog. http://susanscrapbooker.blogspot.com/

Finally the Cuttlebug embossing folders arrived that were ordered in February. There are 5 packs and 4 packs and singles and big ones and normal-sized ones; Japanese, borders, alphabet, romance, and a few others.

My "little buddy" Milo made and appearance in the store today. He was pretty good considering his anxieties about scrapbooking! I'm hoping he will settle down and be comfortable in the store again.

Enjoy the pictures from this past weekend.

IN MY HUMBLE OPINION:
There is a great sale going on at Great Garb in Glenmore Landing. Check it out. My paisley, rubber cowboy boots were purchased at Kaffa Coffee House in Marda Loop. Remember, Stampede is just around the corner! Think how easily the dung can be hosed off these babies!

Weekend Event Re-Cap

Hey Bloggerettes,

The weekend event with the "7 Gyspy" gals was a huge success. Everyone had a great time at the classess with Paula and Debbie. They are very personable, fun and talented. They had prepped the classes so well that everything went off without a hitch. I also made the projects so they can be viewed at the store. I wonder if "7 Gypsies" will have enough printer trays to fill my order on Monday. Everyone is keen to make more as gifts for Christmas. The 3D house is so adorable. Everyone in the class had a different idea of who to make it for and how to personalize it for the occassion.

Congratulations to the bracelet winners, Parise and Ann. Paula and Debbie were tickled pink with theirs too.

Thanks to the gypsy gals for all of their prize give-aways. I didn't expect that! Some people in Calgary now have the hottest "7 Gypsy" products in their hot little hands.

By the way, just because I had birthday cake at dinner it doesn't make me a year older!!!! "Roy/Lloyd" doesn't need to know anything! I probably don't have to worry - he'll be back behind bars!!

Let's try this again!

Hey Bloggerettes,

Just a quick note to let you know that the "Girls Paperie" order finally arrived. There are 2 collections including lots of matching embellishments. One line is very girly and the other is a travel line. Both are double-sided. Check it out!

Thanks VK for getting me out of a bind today. :)

Congratulations to our "Scrap Yard Darling", Lynnn Thune, and family on the safe arrival of the new granddaughter. The timing was superb!

This week we had visitors from a few different store owners outside of Calgary. Val from Peace River and Kari from LA. It's always fun to visit with other store owners.

Hi Mom. I hope things look up soon.

The Gypsy Gals are in town safe and sound. I have a very early morning tomorrow (getting up at SEVEN A.M. - is the sun up at that time???) so I must sign off.

Guess What?

Hey Bloggerettes,

Our new sign is up! I had a young scrapbooker in the store tonight who said she was so excited when she saw it through the school bus window this morning. Isn't that cute?

Just a few things came in today:

-Tim Holtz Curio Knobs
-Tim Holtz Ruler Ribbon
-Tim Holtz Mini Mister Organizer
-Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine
-Pure Milk Chocolate Almonds (they got dropped off today when I wasn't here so I guess we now have some treats - all scrapbookers like treats) ha, ha, ha
-Sunday International EZ Mount

In My HUMBLE Opinion:

Why is it when the lid of the toilet is open you can drop your mascara in the toilet even though you are putting it on your lashes 2 feet away - how does the wand fly out of your hand and take a swan dive into the porcelain bowl???? I HATE THAT!!!!

Have a great day!

Made it Through

So I made it through the crazy busy weekend and now it's a nice calm Monday (of course I'm not scheduled to be in the store until 3:00 p.m. so I'm alone in my craft room)! It was a fun weekend with the BWB on Friday night (sooo nice to have you back Audrey) and 2 of the chicks on Saturday. Trudy hosted a fun "Mother's Day" crop on Sat. night and handed out some fab prizes to the attendees. There may even have been some snacks and liquids involved!

Anyway, as promised I am posting some photos for your entertainment. They are:

#1 and #2 - The wonderful cake that Dot baked for us for National Scrapbook Day. We didn't ask - she offered! It was absolutely delicious and all of the flowers were cut out on her Cricut machine - a true scrapbooker!

#3 and #4 - The 2 handsome gentlemen we had helping out on NSD.

#5 and #6 - Okay, this is what happens when I leave my camera unattended!

#7 - On that note: Maureen - did you actually think I wouldn't post this - good thing you took the picture of your face and not the other end (cause that would have been posted as well)!

#8, #9 and #10 - 3 layouts that I did after we received the new Basic Grey lines - I am LOVING those papers!

#11 - My breakfast on Mother's Day (served along with a Mimosa of course) that my husband and son prepared. Loved it!

Enough ranting for now! Product still coming: Tim Holtz tissue tapes, Tim Holtz embossing folders, Girls' Papiere (2 lines), Melissa Frances, a ton more Stampers' Anonymous, a HUGE bling shipment and, maybe, a couple of surprises!

Have a great week.

Where for art thou Lori??!!

Hi Everyone;

Yes, it's been a while since I've posted. Lori headed off to surprise her Mom in Ontario for Mother's
Day and boy am I missing her! Thursday was a relatively calm day but yesterday was another story. PRODUCT, PRODUCT, PRODUCT. It's nuts in here! Thank you Amy for saving me yesterday morning (hope you're okay Jess) and thank you VK for stepping in last night. The store is a bit of a cluster but let me tell you what's new: Jillibean Soup - papers, corrugated alphabets, sticker alphabets, canvas flowers; The Paper Company - grad papers and embellishments and "Under the Sea" amazing papers and embellishments; Maya Road - lots of things Kraft; sports papers, travel papers, pet papers and embellishments, lots of Disney; AMAZING BAZZILL "Modern and Vintage" buttons and beautiful new flowers; beautiful new storage containers; restock of WR Memory Keepers piercing, craft knife and tweezers; Graphic 45 and last but not least, more ribbon.

I wanted to thank all of our wonderful friends and customers for last Saturday (National Scrapbook Day) - we had fun and hope you did too and congratulations to all of the prize winners.

Trudy is hosting a special Mother's Day crop tonight and I think she has a few things up her sleeve!

I promise to post again soon with photos but for now I hope everyone has a wonderful Mother's Day tomorrow and my thoughts are with you Denise (and your family).

It's a beautiful day somewhere - just not here!!!

Hey Bloggerettes,

Just in.................

Teresa Collins newest line called "Travel Ledger"
7 Gypsies crystal binder rings, dangly paper clips (Avignon), vintage receipt holder, vintage stationery (Gypsy & London edition) and more fun stuff

Just a reminder that the Bo Bunny "Mamarazzi" mini album class is tomorrow night. Remember how much you loved that paper line!!!!!

Donna Downey canvas layout kits are available now. We have 2 different layouts available.

The venue for the "7 Gypsies Weekend" has changed. It will now be held in the Lake Bonavista Rec Centre Multi-Purpose Room. There are only a few spots left so remember "snooze-you-lose"

New segment:

IN MY HUMBLE OPINION

I would like to share some RANDOM things with you:

1. Discovered a new store for affordable jewellry, it's called "Do Dads" and it's in Marda Loop
2. Found a new mascara that lessens the "morning racoon eyes" - its a Covergirl brand in the bright yellow tube
3. I'm thinking that sewing paper on your sewing machine would be less detrimental to your machine if you put a piece of tear-away interfacing under the paper so the feed dogs have something to grip

What a weekend!

Hey Bloggerettes,

Thanks to everyone who participated in the "Glitz Girlz" class today. Who knew it would be that crazy and fun?? Erin and Laura are great. They complimented me on having such talented students - way to go gals! Thanks to Maureen, Diane and Diana for going the "extra mile" for me. I can always count on you guys.

It was nice to see a gaggle of LA (Lethbridge) chicks this weekend too! Don't forget to round up a bunch of gals for the Gypsy Weekend.

On Friday we received our order of Websters Pages. It's pretty darn sweet. It's going fast.

This week we are expecting October Afternoon, Pink Paislee and another Ranger (Tim Holtz) order. (Ranger is due on Friday's UPS delivery.)

Correction

Hey Bloggerettes,

I made a mistake - it's Debbie Crouse that will be teaching with Paula Cheney. I think I had a "MM". Sorry Debbie :(
Sounds like the Lethbridge Ladies are going to do a road trip for this event. Good on ya!

We received the "Alterations" dies from Tim Holtz this week. They are flying out the door like he was with them.
