Check out what's happening!

Hello Bloggerettes,

The next few weeks are peak season for Scrapbookers’.  The store is being stocked for your crafting enjoyment.

Pick up a “WISH LIST” printout from the store to put on the fridge for your family’s shopping ease.

If you participated in Tim Holtz’s “Creative Chemisty 102” you will want to invest in several of the products he demonstrated so that you can try the techniques yourself.  We are in the process of re-stocking the entire Tim Holtz wall in the store.  Paula Cheney is also up to her usual self and making lots of Christmas projects from Tim’s goods.

Most scrapbookers’ have addictive personalities.  Stencils, sprays, washi tape!  How many do you have?  It’s obvious you need more.  We can help you with that – ha, ha, ha.
Did you know that there is washi tape in camo and Lego patterns?  Have you seen our custom made washi tape rotating holder?  Robbie has one!   FYI:   Heidi  F Swapp has 6 new colors of “Color Shine”.

BASIC GREY has brought back the “Calendar Kits”.  They will be in-store shortly.  Don’t wait, call in to reserve yours.  403-271-2225

Don’t forget about our WOODEN LETTERS.  New babies, newlyweds, kid project over the holidays – the perfect gift!

GIFT CARDS for your friends, teachers and fellow scrapbookers at Christmas.

Pinterest - about pinning

Hey Bloggerettes,

I am going to share more info about "Pinning" in this post.

Because you will be crazy, obsessive when you first start "Pinning", you will find that you gravitate to certain types of things and will try to "Pin" the same things over and over again - PINTEREST now has a prompt that shows up on the top of the "Pin" that says "Psst! Looks like you already pinned this".  You have no idea how valuable this is :)

"Repin" is the option most people choose on PINTEREST.  That is totally acceptable.  You are given the option to choose which  of your "Boards" you want to store it in and change the description if you want to so can search for it later by something you have described it as.  Valuable hint:  after you have hit the "Repin" button and want to get out of that screen, click on the "X" that is in the top right hand corner, not the back arrow on the programs top left hand side.

When you find that you are "Pinning" several "Pins" from the same person you obviously like the same things.  Now is the time to "Follow" that person.  Click on their name and you will see their bio and all of their "Boards".  You have the option to "Follow All" or just "Follow" certain boards.  Another way to find people with similar interests is to click on the "Followers" or "Following" of this person.  They obviously like some of the same things too!  This is how you build a great "Pinterest" feed of "Pins".

Find friends to "Follow" who are also on PINTEREST by keying their name into the "Search" bar and selecting "Pinner".

The small red square with the white lines in top left corner has a drop down box that lists common categories to search.

FYI:  Something that I am finding difficult about this blog is the fact that PINTEREST keeps changing constantly and it really depends on the type of computer system you are using (i.e. Windows, PC,  laptop, Mac, iPad, iPhone).  If your Apple apps aren't updated it changes how you view the screens on all Apple products.

Anyway, lets support our local businesses over the Stampede Season and continue to help those in need after the devastating floods.  The Scrap Yard is taking donations to replenish lost scrapbooking supplies to those in need.  In early August we will be hosting a free class and Pizza Party for those in need to come in and bag some supplies.  Stay tuned.

Summer hours are in effect:
Monday - Friday   11-7
(if there is an evening class scheduled, the store will be open later - check the calendar of classes)
Saturday                11-5
Sunday                  Closed

Pinterest - Getting to Know

Hey Bloggerettes,

Now that you have opened a Pinterest account and logged in, here are some tips on navigating around.  Click on the heading Pinterest and get started  :)

Pinterest will give you some templates boards to start you out.  You don't have to keep them.  Click the EDIT button on each board and either delete them or re-name them then SAVE them.  Pinterest will ask you to put each board under a category.  It makes it easier for other pinners to find and search things.  One pinner suggested that before you name any boards you should play around in the EVERYTHING category - see what kinds of things are out there - see what other names pinners have used for their boards - click around on things - have fun!

Back to business - The HOME page has 2 different parts.  The top menu bar is the same for everybody.  It has the SEARCH BOX (key in a word or phrase to find existing "pins"/pictures of what you are looking for   i.e. "caramel"), ADD+ (to add new pin board for yourself because you want a new category to pin things to or add a pin from somewhere on the internet that is not on Pinterest already), ABOUT (drop down box with HELP and other options), your picture (if uploaded - not mandatory) and a drop down box that lets you find friends, see your boards, see your most recent pins, adjust your settings and Logout.  Beneath this heading is a row that says FOLLOWING (once you start following other people you will be able to see all the pins when you click on this word), CATEGORIES (gives you choices of pins to look at by category), EVERYTHING (shows you everything that everyone has pinned up-to-the-minute), POPULAR (the most popular pins that have been repined by others that are current),and finally GIFTS (just another category that is popular and has a drop down box to pick a price range).

The second part of the screen is where the pictures/pins are of things people have pinned to their boards.  Each pin has a picture, a description if provided by the previous pinner (you can click in this box and delete the current description and add your own observation or comment and it will be saved like that on your board), a picture and name of the last person to pin it with a notation of which board they pinned it to.  When you click on the picture/pin  3 choices are displayed at the top of the pin.  You can "REPIN" it to one of your boards by clicking the red "Pin it" button, "Like" it (doesn't go on to a board just stays in your LIKE category) or "Share" it by way of the drop down list that is offered when you mouse over the "Share" button.

Enjoy playing around and stay tuned for the next tutorial.

Ciao,

Pinterest - Starting out

Hey Bloggerettes,

I am going to do a weekly post about the ever popular "Pinterest".

Consider this your invitation to learn about it, learn more about it and master it!

My byline pseudonym will be "Princess Pinterest".

PINTEREST is a picture based  social network (a website used for sharing and communicating between the people who use it) similar to Facebook.  When you find something on the internet that you would like to refer back to, you "pin it" to your "pinboard" which is like an old fashioned corkboard that is on your computer.

Pinterest started in 2008 by a small Silicone Valley company called Cold Brew Labs as a "social cataloging" site.  By August 2011 it was named one of the 50 best websites by Time Magazine.

Pinterest is in a beta testing phase meaning it is still being tested by participants/users to find minor defects so they can address them.  Because of this public testing, membership is by invitation only.  As of January 2012, there were 11.7 million users (mostly women).

Membership is free at this stage.  To join this social network you are required to request an invitation  from Pinterest through their website:       www.pinterest.com    (click on the red button)

You will need a Facebook/Twitter account to log in to Pinterest once your request to join is accepted so get that set up while you are waiting.  You are cautioned to limit the amount of personal information that you submit when opening your Facebook account.

If you don't have a Facebook account, you can sign up for one in a few easy steps. To sign up for a brand new account, enter your name, birthday, gender, and email address into the form on www.facebook.com. Then pick a password.

After you complete the sign up form, they will send an email to the address you provided. Just click the confirmation link to complete the sign up process.

Stay tuned for more info......

More new stuff!

Hey Bloggerettes,

Just reporting in on this fine Monday morning.  The last few weeks have been hectic preparing for our "Imagine 2.0" event last weekend - which was fabulous by-the-way.  We also received 3 big orders.   Love, love all the new stuff. The pictures will tell the tale.

I hope to have the May class schedule on the website by tomorrow.  Don't miss out!  New classes available will be "FAMILY" wooden letters, "CREATE"  wooden letters, a jewelry class, something new from Lynn and we'll see what Susan comes up with to surprise you!

Lynn's Shabby Chic "Bootcamp" is a big hit.   We are taking sign-ups for the fall session of the "Shabby Chic 7" layout/album classes.  You do 1 layout a week for 20 weeks (Christmas hiatus) and then build the album to put your layouts in.  This past session we had an extra class to decorate your album covers - they turned out fabulous!

Susan has her "Mixed Media" class underway as well.  This type of creativeness is super hot in the industry right now.  There are so many new products available to work with.  Watch for the "Gelli Arts Printing Plate" to be arriving at the store.

Project Life monthly class is underway.  Quick and easy way to get it together.

Kid's Summer Camp  will be July 15-18.  This is the wooden letter camp.  The kids pick the letters that they want to do and you pay for each letter and a base fee for the camp.

"The Scrap Yard" will have a presence in Okotoks soon.  Stay tuned.

I created a survey that I would invite you to take.  I want to know what type of off-site events you guys are looking for.  Please indulge me :)
