Big news: Lynn has been recruited by Tim Holtz/Paula Cheney to create some projects that will be displayed in his booth at CHA Winter in Anaheim in January. The parameters are that she uses as much of the newest product that will be released in her own true style. She has already received the big box of product to start creating - how amazing is that??????

Last Friday we celebrated "Customer Appreciation Day".  Thank you to our loyal patrons who attended.  I love that my whole family pitches in to help.  Thanks to Susan and Lynn for helping too.
The big hit was the kraft paper table runner that the tables were covered with.  Who knew????  Soffrito's catered again this year - thanks Gord YUMMMMMMMMMMM. 

The "Happiness Journal" starts up again in January.  The books have arrived.  When you register for the class you will receive the book to start this fabulous journey.  Register ASAP - limited space available.

We have some classes coming up that will help you with gift giving.

December 1 – Fridge Door Advent Calendar (Miniature free standing galvanized fridge door decorated for an Advent Calendar) limited space available – one time only class. Time: 12-5 Cost $75/member - one kit available.

 

December 5 – Rusty Tin  Box – gather/print your favourite PINTEREST recipes or finds and keep them in this great little box that will be ‘shabbied and prettified’ in class. Time: 6-9 Cost: $40/member

 

 

December 12 - Canvas Corp Gourmet Wall Hanging 24x24”. This is a beautiful kitchen wall hanging using 12x24” & 2-12x12” canvases as the base and trimmed out with other canvases and 7 Gypsies products. Time: 6-10 Cost: $125/member

 

 

December 13 – Jenni Bowlin Chalkboard Easel. This will be a great teachers’ gift. Susan’s mixed media style. Time: 6-8 Cost: $25/member

 

 

December 14 – "Customer Appreciation Evening" with nappies/beverages/make-n-takes/prizes – please register for this event. Time: 6-9 No charge

 

December 15 - "Pizza Party" to catch up on any of Lynn’s classes. Bring your projects that you need to finish and Lynn will help you finish. Time: 5-10 Cost: $20/member

 

December 17 – "Bauble Bracelet Creation" – lets have fun at the Bead Bar and make some “Baubles” for gift giving. Time: 6-8 Cost: $20/bracelet

Some other stuff:

If you are putting off ordering customized wooden letters, the cut-off date to ensure you get them by Christmas is this Wednesday. We have done some fun ones lately like “Hanukkah”, “Belize”, “Jingle”, “Elliana”, “Erica”. We have 3 different pricing points: $10/letter for raw letters, $12/letter for painted only and $15/letter for painted and decorated.

FYI: There are 3 sets of raw JINGLE letters available for sale.

 

“Bling it on Canada” was fabulous. Teresa Collins was very impressed with our city, its hospitality, talented teachers, The Scrap Yard store, the venue in which it was held. She has posted great accolades on her blog. Her only complaint was coming through customs at the airport and the first question they asked her was “Have you ever had a DUI?” ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!! That was embarrassing.

 

 

“Shabby Chic” classes take a break after the Dec 13^th class. They will resume the week of January 7, 2013

 

“Imagine 2.0” was announced at the end of the “Bling it on Canada” event. The attendees of “Bling it on Canada” had first chance to register. The next round of registration is opened up today to the attendees of the first “Imagine” event held last April. The event date is April 19-21, 2013. Venue is Red Deer Lake Community Hall (pending booking confirmation). Some format changes are: There will be a class on Friday night so the Sunday classes can end earlier. There will still be 6 fabulous classes in the following styles – Shabby Chic, Grunge, Mixed Media, Jewellery, Altered Art and something new that we discover at CHAW2013. Lori, Susan and Lynn will be instructing. Home cooked meals and snacks provided. A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required to book your spot. Final payment is due February 1, 2013. No refunds will be provided. You can send someone in your spot if you can’t attend. Total cost for the weekend is $399.99.

NOTE: Basic Grey “Page-of-the-Month” class will be the first Wednesday in January for the December layout. Who is interested in continuing this class for 2013? I have to make my commitment soon to order the kits for another year. This class happens once a month and you do a double page layout using the most current Basic Grey collection. You end up with lots of left over product to make cards or add to other layouts you are working on. Cost is $24.99/class with a commitment of 12 layouts.

Have you registered for the new session of “The Happiness Journal”? In January we will be starting the new book called “Happier at Home” by Gretchen Rubin. Lynn will be continuing her shabby style of altering this hardcover book. Space is limited to 16 participants. Register ASAP.

The final preparations for the "Bling It On Canada" Teresa Collins Event are underway!  Only 4 more sleeps.  Thank goodness this isn't my first event or I would be bonkers!  Everyone knows that I work better under pressure.  Somehow Lynn & Susan have caught on to this lovely way to live - ha, ha, ha.   Last chance to get in on the fun :)

There have been quite a few bookings for kids birthday parties of late.  They love to do the wooden letters or a mixed media canvas or a mini album.  Susan does such a great job with the girls.

Ask about our stash of wooden letters - maybe a name for a baby gift or a surname as a house warming gift?????  Check out the "Oil & Vinegar" letters done for Gord/Soffrittos when he's at the Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market.

Condolences go out to Pat and Dianna.  Very sorry for your losses.

Tonight is "Howlers Halloween" at the mall.  Laura, from Dog Gone Healthy, is having a fun night for the canines at her store.  There are at least 4 stores in the mall that are "Dog Friendly" and will be giving out dog treats to the four-legged friends.  How cute is that!

Hey Bloggerettes, Just checking in with y'all. The Scrap Yard was invited to exhibit at the "Calgary Baby & Tot show" this past weekend. We set up a 600 square foot booth in 4 hours, had at least 3000 people go through it over the weekend and met sooooo many babies. Cute, cute, cute - not that I want one or anything! Baby names are so different now-a-days. We featured our wooden letters - Ray might be super busy in the next month if everybody who loved them comes in to order!!!!! Thanks to my friend Purcell who flew in from Victoria to help. Such a good friend! Lots of new product came in on Friday. We are attempting to get it all out on the shelves in the next few days. The big ticket item that I know arrived is the new SILHOUETTE CAMEO machine. I am anxious to try it out. Silhouette CAMEO® The Silhouette CAMEO® is an electronic cutting tool for personal use. Like a home printer, it plugs into your PC or Mac® with a simple USB cable. However, instead of printing it uses a small blade to cut paper, cardstock, vinyl, fabric and more up to 12" wide and 10 feet long. The machine also has the ability to register and cut printed materials. Lynn will be teaching SHABBY CHIC BOOT CAMP starting in November. If you have always wanted to try your hand at this style of scrapbooking, then you will want to sign up for this class. The class will be once a month for 6 months. Susan has some fabulous classes planned for the next few months. She was published again in Scrapbook Trends! Yeah for Susan!!!! I will be ordering more wooden Witch Boots this week. If you want a set please let me know ASAP. There is an update for my iPhone app "SCRAPBOOK INC" ready for you to download. Hey Bloggerettes, New product arrived last week. Some fun stuff!! Lynn and I returned from our annual pilgrimage to Las Vegas/Henderson to attend the Teresa Collins "Inspiration Unlimited" event. It's nice to be the student and not the organizer for a change. We enjoyed our classes, the friends that we see every year, pool time and "ca-chinging". Nothing spectacular to report on that front :( Remember the Canadian "Bling It On Canada" event is November 15 & 16 with registration on the evening of the 14th at the Hyatt. Pictures of 2 projects Teresa will be teaching shown above - she will also be teaching a Christmas mini album. If you are planning to attend the "Calgary Baby & Tot Show" at the BMO Center Oct 13-14 you are welcome to stop by "The Scrap Yard" booth #306. FYI: We have admission discount coupons at the store. We have lots of classes planned for the next 3 months. We are busy getting them all on the website class schedule. Hey Bloggerettes, Holy cow it's been awhile since I posted on the blog. It seems easier to go on Facebook and scribe a few words. I always feel that the blog has to be a longer post. Sometimes "Pinterest" takes up my free time - OOPS! Anyway, I am having a sale tomorrow (Saturday) - 25% off your product purchases. Need to make room for some new stuff. Shout out to Mel - hope all is well. Shout out to my Page-of-the-Month girls - "Random Act of Kindness" queens. "Shabby Chic" classes are rolling along great. We have quite a few new people signed up for this session. It's so nice to hear how excited they are after each layout. I had a call yesterday from one of the students and they were so excited aboutr doing the next layout. My iPhone app (Scrapbook Inc) is going to have a new look and feel. I am expanding the manufacturer base so you won't be limited to just Ranger/Holtz products. Stay tuned - the developer has a few more things to add in and then I'm back to serious data entry. I can check it's progress/sales whenever I want and I was so excited to see someone from Australia and someone from Germany bought it!!!! Don't forget about the "Bling It On Canada" with Teresa Collins big event in mid November. Teresa is now going to teach 3 classes instead of 2 - BONUS for attendees! Register on-line. ****The hotel rooms at the Hyatt will only be available until Oct 15 at the good rate - after that they go back up to regular price. Payment is due in full the first week of October.
